Some of our classmates have started a tradition of yearly reunions, usually at each other's home communitie.  Here's a group photo of Eva Derrickson Nicklaw, Bunny Wheeler Kimmett, Kathy Glanville Byrnes, and Bonnie Glenn Bollie at a recent get-together at Bonnie's home in southern Ohio.

EVA DERRICKSON NICKLAW WINS "BEST OF SHOW" FOR HER QUILT!

From the Tryon Daily Bulletin (SC), June 15, 2011:

The 140 quilts that filled Landrum Middle School’s gymnasium last weekend appeared more as works of art than something thrown on a bed to keep your feet warm.

“There are some that just speak to you,” said Ellen Henderson, co-chair of this year’s Landrum Quilt Show. “Many people are drawn to the traditional ones because they are familiar, because they remind them of their grandmother and watching her quilt.”

The Landrum Quilt Guild entertained hundreds of quilters and quilt admirers Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 9-11, at its 11th bi-annual quilt show.

This show is a “People’s Choice” award show, according to Henderson. Each attendee received a ballot and was asked to cast a vote for their favorites.

First-time show participant Eva Nicklaw captured Best in Show with her “A Bit of Baltimore” quilt. The quilt also won first place in the large appliqued wall hangings category and a vendor ribbon.

The Landrum Quilt Show originated in the early 90s. In 2009, 1,200 people came through over three days.

This year the show drew people from across the region and a few from as far away as Illinois and Ohio.

The "Gathering" at Perry's on September 21, 2010 was fun. It is always nice to see old friends and catch up on what's happening and not having to wait 25 or 50 years to do it.  Hope to see you again at the next one which is to be decided at a later date. It was strongly suggested that we meet closer to Bunny and Dee and Dale since they have traveled so often to this neck of the woods.  We'll keep you posted.  Janet

Just heard from Janet Moses Hughart with good news about her continuing recovery from major surgery.  It arrived with the attached photograph of Janet with her two sons. Also bad news about the passing of Diane Redmond Muentz's 90-year-old mother. Would that we all enjoyed such longevity.

Here's the email, which also alludes to Kathy Glanville Byrnes's latest mishap--a broken shoulder and 8-12 months of physical therapy:

"Hi Larry,
Diane (Redmond) Muentz has been after me to update you on my condition.  I have been home now for almost 4 months.  A record for me since the surgery on July 31, 2009.  I am so sorry that I couldn't attend the class reunion, it sure looked like a lot of fun!  Maybe I can make the upcoming luncheon.  I didn't know that Kathy had fallen, again, she fell on one of our girl get together a couple of years ago.  I think she needs to stay away from cement steps and parking lots.  As you said in your email, she is strong and will recover, but believe me it does get old pulling up those boot straps again and again.  I don't know if you have gotten the news, from Bunny, that Diane's Mother passed away this past week, she was 91.  Per Diane's instructions I am attaching a recent photo of myself and my two sons, taken on Christmas Day.  I hope to hear from you soon, you guys did a great job on the
reunion booklet.  Janet Hughart"
